The Programme

A 3-month journey from curiosity to a working robot

Walk2Lead Robotics Tech Quest is a three-month, activity-based programme for Classes 6 & 7 in government schools, reaching children in rural and coastal communities who rarely get access to STEM education of this quality.

30 sessions per school: 26 hands-on, 4 presentation

Electronics, Arduino, sensors, coding fundamentals and AI-assisted building across 26 hands-on sessions, plus 4 dedicated presentation sessions, with every student prototyping on real kits, not slides.

Two-stage merit selection

An orientation ideathon, then a school-conducted written aptitude test, selects ~30 students per school from cohorts of 300–400 applicants.

Every phase ends with students pitching working prototypes to an external jury of technologists and educators.

Real-time transparency portal

De' Lead tracks session progress, attendance and school-wise detail live on the Walk2Lead portal, giving Walkaroo Foundation full visibility and board-ready reporting.

The Story

One school in Kozhikode. Scaled to four districts

Kinalur GUPS was a single pilot in 2023. Walk2Lead has since reached Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur, expanding with every phase.

The pilot nobody had to renew

One school, 48 students, no track record to point to. De' Lead ran the full 30-session curriculum anyway, taking students from electronics to a working prototype, presented by 12-year-olds. It was enough to take the programme into a second district next.

Phase 2 · Scale-up

Malappuram & Kozhikode

16 schools, 480 students: the first real test of the system

Two districts at once meant real operational strain: shared laptops, patchy power, schools running in parallel across both. The programme still delivered a documented 92.99% average attendance, tracked school-by-school, not estimated.

Phase 3 · New ground

Kannur

Trusted across a third district

3 schools, 90 students, including DIET's own Lab School in Palayad, with the academic partner trusting the programme inside its own training ground.

Kozhikode, Malappuram & Wayanad

24 schools, 705 students, and a jump to the international stage

Twelve students from this cohort were selected for the TechTop 2025 International Inclusive Innovation Challenge & Zero2Entrepreneur Bootcamp, held 28 Nov–4 Dec 2025 at Maker Village, Kochi: 5 from Kozhikode, 7 from Malappuram. Walk2Lead students ranked top 2 — out of the world

A 7-day maker-to-entrepreneur bootcamp at Maker Village, Kochi, bringing together 37–45 hand-picked student innovators from Grades 6–12 across India, Japan and UAE. Students worked alongside mentors from MIT and Stanford, building prototypes addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals. Out of all participants across every country, the top 2 ranked students came from Walk2Lead — government school kids from Kerala.

An Arduino Uno with push buttons and an LCD screen that gives real-time, safe status alerts for each line in a three-wire electrical system.

Life Guard

An automatic hydraulic lift that detects rising floodwater and elevates living spaces and beds to protect occupants — an affordable add-on for homes in flood-prone areas.

Money Eating Monster

An interactive smart piggy bank: a sensor detects each coin and a servo mechanism makes the monster "eat" it, turning saving into a game for children.

Gas Stove Automation System

A servo-controlled gas knob with ultrasonic boil detection and a smoke sensor that automatically shuts off the stove when unsafe conditions are detected.

Smart Gas Detection System

An MQ-2 sensor detects gas leaks and automatically opens windows, cuts power via relay, and activates an exhaust fan to clear the space.

Marine Safety

Aqua Guard

Real-time passenger counter and weight monitor for small boats; if tilt is detected, motors pump water to the opposite side to restore balance and prevent capsizing.

Air Quality Checker

An MQ135 sensor detects CO₂ and harmful gases in real time, giving homes and schools an affordable way to monitor air quality and protect health.

Smart Farming Robot

An automated assistant for crop monitoring and irrigation, reducing manual labour and continuous supervision for small-plot farming.

AutoShine

Ultrasonic sensors detect footwear at an entrance and activate 360-degree rotating brushes for touchless, automatic shoe cleaning.

Automatic Seeder and Tiller

A battery-powered robot that simultaneously tills soil and sows seeds with uniform spacing, cutting labour costs for small-scale farmers.
